The Oath. Giuseppe Mazzini's Young Italy
On display, for the first time, the letter sent by Giuseppe Mazzini to Giuseppe Giglioli on July 21, 1831 containing the oath of membership to the " Giovine Italia” (Young Italy). The exhibition is sponsored by the Prime Minister's Presidency and Roma Capitale.

A historical document, the “birth certificate” of the Italia Risorgimentale democratica, kept at the Domus Mazziniana in Pisa, is presented to the public for the first time for the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy. There are two different versions of. The first version, reproduced almost entirely in the letter to Giuseppe Giglioli and on exhibition here, was written in July 1831, in Marseille.
The second version, written a few months later, reproduced the general structure of the oath, but the tone changed: it contained the word “mission”, called for an independent, free, and Republican Italy, and lacked any threatening reference to traitors.
