Musei Capitolini,

Capitoline Museums' new Galleria Lapidaria, with a selection of the most important items from the Capitoline's epigraphic collection.

After 30 years the new Galleria Lapidaria at the Capitoline Museums reopens, after restoration merging a high level of scientificity with the most modern viewing systems available and a considerable number of novelties.
With the completion of structural work in the Galleria di Congiunzione that joins the three buildings situated in the Piazza del Campidoglio, a new museum sector has been organised, dedicated to epigraphy, completing the route followed for visits to the Capitoline Museums.

This new setting, financed entirely by Rome's Central Administration, illustrates through various inscriptions a number of aspects of public and private life in ancient Rome.
The exhibition is subdivided into various theme sections: "Languages", "Professions and jobs", "Games", "The sepulcher", "Cult", "Law", "Roads and aqueducts", "The Military", "The Roman aristocracy".

An IT position allows one to see index cards with images for all the 1400 inscriptions previously exhibited in this Gallery, including those now kept in the Museum's warehouses.

Another novelty in this new setting is the creation of a special route for those with impaired eyesight, allowing one to touch two of the exhibits as well as a plastic model of the Palazzo Senatorio, including explicatory panels written in Braille.

A musical comment, planned with a help from Zètema Progetto Cultura, introduces and accompanies the visitor throughout the visit all the way to the spectacular view of the Roman Forum seen from the Tabularium.

Independent visits are also allowed for the sector of the Capitol Museums ( Tabularium and Galleria Lapidaria), with a reduced ticket.
