Visit for schools

According to the myth, the Vestal Virgin Rhea Silvia was raped by the god Mars and gave birth to twins. The grandfather of the twins Numitor was removed from the throne of Alba Longa by his own brother Amulius, who later also ordered to thrown them into the Tiber in a basket. The basket ran aground and the twins were discovered by a female wolf who took care of them until they were found by the shepherd Faustulus. The lair of the wolf is the legendary Lupercal in the Palatine hill.
